Introduction/Bio
History Scorpions, formally known as Fisons, is one of the original clubs that formed the Loughborough Town Netball League in 1978. All players originally worked for Fisons and the teams were sponsored by them; however the name had to be changed when the company was taken over by Astra Zeneca and the sponsorship ceased. The current name of Scorpions was voted in by the members. The club was initially started with 2 teams and increased to 3 the following year. Although many players have since come and gone, we maintained the 3 teams from 1979 to 2016. Unfortunately due to the club struggling for both players and umpires in 2016 we reduced to 2 teams. Teams are called Scorpions Black (1) and Scorpions Red (2). We have 2 teams that both play in the 1st division. Scorpions Black spent the past few seasons in the Premier League, often winning the sportsmanship award. Scorpions Red were promoted from the 2nd division after winning that league. We have a squad of around 20, many of us have played for several years with the club and we welcome new players every season. We are a friendly club that enjoy the competition of LTNL and have plenty of socials throughout the year. Training Date(s) & Time(s)
Player/Club Development Opportunities We have a couple of players who lead coaching sessions to progress our teams in their set plays and focus on different areas of match play. We also have some qualified umpires in the squad and can offer support to players that would like to train as an umpire. This enhances our training sessions and gets us match ready, especially at the start of the season. Many Scorpions players are very experienced and always ready to support the development of players that are keen to learn and progress their play. There have been lots of players over the years that have returned to netball after a long break and we can empathise with the challenges and excitement this brings.
